Our Mission
Movement Reservoir Dance Company was founded by Lachan Niedbala in 2022 to provide a creative outlet for dance artists, to help build a dance community that supports artists in their endeavors, and to increase opportunities for the Kalamazoo community and beyond to experience dance from multiple voices.
Movement Reservoir strives to create a place for artists to express their artistic voices through dance while challenging themselves to grow in an uplifting environment. Additionally, it provides the Kalamazoo area (and beyond) with more opportunities to experience dance from various artists throughout the Midwest.

Our Story
Every Performing Arts Company has a great story that paved the way to its establishment. Movement Reservoir came from Lachan's passion for creating meaningful work and fostering an environment for dancers to feel accepted where they are while striving to grow in the capacity they desire without judgment. This company is intended to create more opportunities for individuals to cultivate their dance careers and pursue their individual goals in their dancing. Movement Reservoir values intentionality, authenticity, collaboration, individual growth, and resilience.
Since 2016, the founder of Movement Reservoir, Lachan, has been choreographing and working with dancers of all ages and experiences in dance, to provide audiences across the United States with opportunities to experience dance. In 2020, Lachan began working on her first concert, Rooted Movement, which was produced Virtually in 2021. Perspectives Dance Concert followed in 2022 and the founding of Movement Reservoir in 2022 with its inaugural concert, Connected Bodies. Movement Reservoir intends to continue providing various concerts that have a lasting impact on audiences.

Movement Reservoir aspires to provide high-quality dance opportunities to the Kalamazoo area for all people. We believe that dance is meant for all people regardless of experience, age, body type, race, gender, religion, etc. In the years to come, we aspire to provide classes, outreach events, and more performances to the Kalamazoo area and beyond.
